Data shows 20,000 Bangladesh RMG workers laid off in first half 2026

Data from the Industrial Police, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) shows at least 20,000 workers, most from the ready-made garment (RMG) sector, were reportedly laid off or retrenched across Bangladesh during the first half of 2026.
