Congress's Machhiwara block president Parminder Tiwari was allegedly killed by unidentified assailants at Hadiyan on Kohara Road of Ludhiana late on Sunday. Tiwari, in his fifties, was sitting at his rented quarters when the assailants arrived and attacked him with an axe. He was rushed to Fortis Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Ludhiana Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma stated that prima facie it appears to be a case of personal rivalry, but a probe has been initiated. Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa have condemned the killing, calling it an indictment of the AAP government's failure to maintain law and order. This is reportedly the fourth such incident involving a Congress block president under the current administration.
