Matthew Althorpe of Niagara Falls, Ontario, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted on seven terrorism-related charges. Althorpe was a prominent member of the 'Terrorgram Collective,' a decentralized network on Telegram that promotes white supremacist violence. The court found his actions were linked to at least six international terror attacks, including a 2022 shooting at an LGBTQ+ bar in Bratislava, Slovakia, and a 2024 stabbing at a mosque in Eskişehir, Turkey. Jewish advocacy groups, including B'nai Brith Canada and the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center, praised the sentence as a landmark decision against the digital radicalization that fuels real-world violence.
