Dighi, Pune, Maharashtra, India

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), which manages approximately 27 percent of India’s port cargo volumes, has operationalised the country's first Port of Refuge (PoR) facilities. The designated locations are Dighi Port in Maharashtra (West Coast) and Gopalpur Port in Odisha (East Coast). A Port of Refuge is defined as a place where a ship in distress can seek shelter to stabilize its condition, reduce hazards to navigation, and protect the environment from potential leaks or spills. This initiative aligns with international maritime safety standards and enhances India's capability to manage mid-sea emergencies and prevent coastal contamination.
