Greater Accra Region, Ghana

The Chief Executive Officer of Akuafo Nketewa, Dr. Charles Nyaaba, has strongly criticised the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, over government assurances regarding Ghana’s looming tomato shortage. Stakeholders argue that the 'Planting for Food and Jobs' (PFJ) Phase 2 has failed to address structural issues such as high input costs, lack of irrigation, and poor storage facilities. Ghana currently relies on imports from Burkina Faso to meet over 70% of its tomato demand, a situation described as a national security risk to food stability.
