Cannon Hill, Kakadu NT 0822, Australia
Residents in Kakadu National Park's outstations are pleading for urgent government assistance after record-breaking floodwaters submerged homes. In the community of Cannon Hill, residents reported water reaching roof height, forcing families to seek refuge on higher ground or with relatives in less affected areas. Despite the severity of the damage caused by the recent ex-tropical cyclone, locals claim they have been denied access to official evacuation centers and have not been made eligible for the disaster relief payments currently available to other regions in the Northern Territory. The NT government has stated it is assessing the situation, but residents feel the response is too slow for those who have lost everything.
