There is an outbreak of meningococcal disease in the Mangembo Health Zone of Kongo Central Province. The best way to protect yourself is to get meningococcal vaccination. Meningococcal disease is a serious bacterial infection that can cause meningitis (infection of the lining of the brain and spinal cord) and septicemia (infection of the bloodstream). Travelers to the affected area should seek medical care immediately if they develop symptoms such as sudden high fever, headache, and stiff neck.
