Iran
The shape of the war is being determined by the country’s rugged terrain and vast coastline. Iran’s geography provides a natural fortress that complicates any adversary's military planning. To the west and south, the Zagros Mountains create a formidable barrier to ground forces, while the Alborz range protects the north. Furthermore, Iran's 1,500-mile coastline along the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, culminating in the narrow Strait of Hormuz, allows for a 'mosaic defense' strategy. This geography enables Iran to utilize asymmetric tactics, such as mobile missile batteries and fast-attack craft, to threaten global energy supplies and naval assets without needing a conventional blue-water navy.
