Officials in South Sudan's Ruweng Administrative Area have reported that nearly 170 people were killed in a brutal attack on Monday. The incident marks one of the deadliest escalations in recent months. Simultaneously, the medical aid group Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has raised the alarm over 26 of its humanitarian workers who have gone missing following a separate wave of violence in Jonglei state. The disappearance of the aid workers has forced MSF to suspend some operations in the area, further jeopardizing the delivery of essential healthcare to vulnerable populations. Local authorities are investigating the Ruweng attack, which is believed to be linked to ongoing inter-communal tensions and competition over resources. The government has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities as the death toll is expected to rise.
