Portugal and Spain are bracing for the arrival of Storm Leonardo, a weather system expected to bring severe rainfall and strong winds to the Iberian Peninsula. Authorities have issued warnings across both countries for potential flooding, power outages, and disruption to transport services. This storm follows Storm Kristin, which already caused considerable damage. The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) forecasts effects from Tuesday until Saturday, with gusts up to 75 km/h. In Portugal, Daniele Fraga of ANEPC warned of floods in previously affected areas. Rainfall could reach 250 millimetres in 24 hours, raising flash flood and landslide risks. In the Leiria region of Portugal, 95,000 households remain without power. The Portuguese government has announced a €2.5 billion relief package to assist recovery efforts, which include repairing damage to homes, roads, and F-16 fighter jets at the Monte Real air base. Travel disruptions are expected across airports, railways, and roads, particularly in Andalusia and the Canary Islands in Spain.
