Moscow Oblast, Russia

Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev, the deputy head of Russia's GRU military intelligence, has survived an assassination attempt in Moscow after being shot several times outside an apartment building. Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) announced that the suspect, a Ukrainian-born Russian citizen named Lyubomir Korba, was detained in Dubai and extradited to Russia. The Kremlin has accused Ukraine of orchestrating the attack, a claim Kyiv denies. Simultaneously, Russia launched a massive aerial assault on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, deploying over 400 drones and 40 missiles, resulting in fatalities in Odesa and Kramatorsk. Amidst the escalation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the US is pushing for a peace deal by June, while also announcing new sanctions against foreign companies supplying components for Russian weaponry. Russia also claimed the capture of two settlements in eastern Ukraine, Hlushkivka and Sydorivka.
