Nampula, Mozambique
Renewed attacks in Mozambique's Cabo Delgado province since mid-December 2025 have forced over 107,000 people to flee their homes, with violence now expanding into the densely populated Nampula Province. The conflict has specifically affected the Memba district, forcing residents to seek refuge in Erati, Mecufi, and Nacala. This displacement is occurring during the peak of the 2025/26 rainy and cyclone season, where severe flooding has already affected 600,000 people nationwide since late December. The flooding has destroyed 12,000 homes and damaged critical infrastructure including 126 schools and 13 health facilities. The Mozambican government has activated a nationwide red alert. Humanitarian agencies like CARE and Norwegian People’s Aid warn that the response is dangerously underfunded, with a USD 240 million gap in the UN Humanitarian Response Plan. Efforts are focused on providing shelter, WASH kits, and emergency packages to displaced families in southern and central Mozambique.
