Russia launched a massive combined aerial assault on Ukraine’s energy sector between the evening of February 2 and the morning of February 3, 2026. The attack involved 521 aerial vehicles, including 71 missiles and 450 drones. Key targets included the Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Vinnytsia, and Odesa regions. In Kharkiv, a major thermal power plant was severely damaged, leaving approximately 800 homes without heat during temperatures as low as -25°C. Reports also indicate that Russia may have targeted energy workers from DTEK and Ukrenergo with Kh-22 missiles while they were repairing a substation in the Kyiv region. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 450 targets, but 27 missiles and 31 drones successfully hit various locations. President Zelensky condemned the strikes as a deliberate attempt to 'terrorize' the population during the coldest days of winter.
