Xinjiang, China's largest region and the only region in China with a majority Muslim population, is a historical crossroads of the ancient Silk Road. Located in the northwest, it borders eight countries: India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Mongolia. Beijing's surveillance model developed in Xinjiang is being exported to Afghanistan, raising concerns about the expansion of authoritarian governance practices and surveillance infrastructure across Central Asia.
