Gabriola fire department says emergency preparedness on the Gulf Islands comes with unique challenges

With a hot and dry summer expected, residents on Gabriola Island are being encouraged to prepare for an emergency or evacuation. Isolated on a small island off the coast of Nanaimo, planning for evacuation comes with unique challenges. The Gabriola Fire Department answered questions on Thursday night about emergency preparedness on the Island, and what would happen if there was an evacuation on the small island. The department had run through a practice scenario earlier this spring.
