In the Brazilian Amazon, water is not simply a natural resource. For many rural communities, it shapes mobility, livelihoods, food systems, and everyday life. In the Amazon River delta, the Marajó Archipelago faces severe water insecurity despite being one of the world's most water-abundant regions. Brazil holds 12% of the world's freshwater reserves and yet growing water insecurity reveals some of the country's deepest sanitation inequalities, which are particularly relevant to Marajó.
