Johannesburg, South Africa
The city of Johannesburg's power infrastructure and billing systems need urgent attention. Just over a third (38%) of the residents of South Africa's commercial capital face electricity service failures. The city has secured a German loan to address these critical infrastructure deficiencies, but implementation will take considerable time. Electricity prices are expected to rise faster than inflation during the repair period.
