On July 14, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul signed the nation's first statewide moratorium on the building of new hyperscale data centers, pausing all state environmental permits for up to one year. The purpose, according to the governor's announcement, is to take time to assess environmental and infrastructure impacts of large-scale data center development.
